Yuba County Sheriff’s detectives arrested 3 adults and 3 juveniles on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property, Sheriff Steve Durfor announced today.
The sheriff’s department received a report Wednesday afternoon of a burglary that had occurred at an apartment on Country Club Ct. The victims told deputies they returned home to find two video game systems, five bicycles, a small safe, and miscellaneous clothing had been taken. As they told deputies, the victims suspected several neighborhood teenagers because they had just seen one of them wearing the victim’s pants. Deputies confirmed that the 13-year-old neighbor was wearing stolen pants, and he confessed to his role in the burglary. He was later cited and released to his parents for possession of stolen property. Burglary charges are pending with the district attorney’s office.
Investigators learned that most of the stolen property was in an apartment downstairs from the victims, and located several items during a probation search of the residence. The resident, 39-year-old Tracy Moreland, was caught trying to help her 16-year-old son dispose of the property out of their back window before deputies could find it. Both Moreland and her son were arrested. She was charged with possession of stolen property and booked into the Yuba County Jail. Her son was charged with burglary and being in possession of a concealed knife. He was booked into Bi-County Juvenile Hall. Another 16-year-old was found hiding in the apartment and was booked into Juvenile Hall for burglary. One of the boys told investigators that they had broken in to steal marijuana and guns, and were disappointed when they did not locate either of these items.
The investigation then led to another East Linda address, this one on the 6200 block of Farrell Way. Detectives found a stolen video game system here, and spoke with two individuals who admitted buying it although they knew it was stolen. The home’s occupant, 20-year-old Kyle Spowehn, and 48-year-old Terri Runion of Olivehurst were later arrested for possession of stolen property, and booked into the Yuba County Jail.
