At 11:32 a.m. on November 20, 2008, the Sioux Falls Police Department, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and Rural/Metro Ambulance were dispatched to 41st Street and Cambridge Avenue for a motorcycle crash.
A 19-year-old male from Sioux Falls was westbound on 41st Street driving a 2004 Buell XB12R motorcycle. Witness statements indicate that the driver of the motorcycle was weaving in and out of traffic.
In the 5600 block of West 41st Street the motorcyclist lost control as he was switching lanes. He hit the north curb and was separated from his motorcycle. The driver came to rest near a storage shed on the northeast corner of 41st Street and Gibson Avenue. The motorcycle continued through a fence and into the backyard of the residence on the northeast corner.
The 19-year-old driver was transported to Sanford Hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries. Speed was a factor, but alcohol does not appear to be. The driver was wearing a helmet.
