Houston - Fatality Accident at 12600 East Freeway

November 18, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 12600 block of the East Freeway (Interstate-10 East) about 9:40 a.m. today (Nov. 18).
The victim, identified as Jeanie A. Barfield, 47, suffered head trauma and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S.A. Perez and Officer R. Tallent reported:
According to witnesses, Ms. Barfield was driving a black Toyota Corolla eastbound on the East Freeway at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. Ms. Barfield drove on the right side safety lane and attempted to pass a vehicle when she struck the rear of a parked, unoccupied road construction. The area was coned off and the truck had amber safety lights activated.
The investigation is continuing.
