Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on US 90 west of Crowley, La, within Acadia Parish.
The crash occurred shortly after 1:00 am this morning, when twenty-six year old Miriah Cox of Iota, La, was traveling westbound on US 90, at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled left of the centerline and traveled off the roadway to the left onto the grass/gravel shoulder adjacent to the eastbound lane of US 90.
Cox steered left in an attempt to re-enter US 90 however, the front, right portion of the vehicle struck a tree south of the US 90. The impact with the tree caused the vehicle to separate. Cox was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was pronounced dead on scene. Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash and Chemical test are pending at the LSP crime lab.
This is the sixty-fifth fatality crash and the seventy-first fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
