At 8:13 p.m. on October 28, 2008, Sioux Falls Police, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and Rural/Metro Ambulance were dispatched to the area of Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue for an injury accident.
A 2002 Cadillac driven by a 25-year-old female was northbound on Cleveland Avenue. As the Cadillac was turning westbound into the Shop ’N Cart car wash, her 3-year-old son unbuckled himself from his car seat and jumped out of the car, falling onto Cleveland Avenue. A southbound 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a 24-year-old female did not see the child on the road. The Pontiac hit the 3-year-old with the left front bumper of the car, pushing the child several feet before he came to rest in the middle of the street.
The 3-year-old was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital with life-threatening injuries. It does not appear speed or alcohol were factors in this crash. The investigation continues.
