New Mexico State Police Arrest Two Following High Speed Pursuit

(Quay County, NM) – Two arrests ended a five hour search this morning after 17 year old Priscilla Kern and 17 year old Aidan Murphy led State Police on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle. At approximately 12:01 this morning, New Mexico State Police Officer Marcus Lopez was patrolling west of Tucumcari, New Mexico on Interstate 40 when he stopped a black two door Toyota for speeding 74 in a 45 mile per hour construction zone. As he attempted to make contact with the occupants, the vehicle sped away. Officer Lopez pursued the vehicle west on I-40 at speeds over 110 miles per hour. The Toyota exited I-40 at mile marker 321 and drove off the exit ramp. Both subjects fled on foot and officers began a search for the subjects in dark rugged terrain. State Police helicopter assisted in the search.
At approximately 4:49 a.m., State Police Officer Charles Eiland located both subjects walking beside the westbound shoulder of Interstate 40, approximately two miles from where they abandoned the stolen vehicle. Both subjects were arrested without further incident. Aidan Murphy received minor injuries as a result of crashing off the road.
Seventeen year old Priscilla Kerns of Lillington, North Carolina was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Fleeing, Evading or Resisting an Officer, Conspiracy, Possession of less than One Ounce of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Seventeen year old Aidan Murphy, of Raleigh, North Carolina was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Conspiracy, Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting, Evading or Obstructing an Officer, Driving on a Suspended License and Speeding 74 in a 45. Both individuals are pending booking at this time
