(Norfolk, NE)- Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Troop B Headquarters- Norfolk contacted 301 motorists during special enforcement efforts on Thursday, October 2 and Friday, October 3, 2008. The high visibility enforcements held in Madison County were designed to help reduce fatalities and encourage safe driving.
With a special emphasis on county roads in the Norfolk area troopers held vehicle checks and conducted high visibility patrols. Among the 301 enforcement contacts made, 54 motorists received citations and warnings for Speeding. Twenty-seven citations and warnings were issued for Seat Belt violations, one driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and two drug related arrests were made.
“This is a very busy time of the year, especially on our county roads,” said Troop B Commander, Captain Brad Rice. “We’ve been experiencing a beautiful Indian summer. The nice weather combined with harvest season, means an increase vehicles on our county roads and the potential for an increase in accidents as well.”
In an effort to avoid crashes and keep motorists safe, the Nebraska State Patrol reminds all motorists to always wear their seat belts, obey the posted speed limits, allow plenty of time and distance between themselves and others on the road, and never driver impaired.
The special enforcement efforts were paid for thanks in part to a $3,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS).
