Text: On 10/2/2008 at 1632 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to
Beechwood Circle near Big Lake to a report of a male in the road needing
assistance. Upon arrival AST contacted Darwin Heaton (51 yoa of Big
Lake) who stated that he was stranded due to his ATV running out of gas.
Investigation revealed that Heaton was under the influence of alcohol
and had been driving his ATV. Heaton was subsequently arrested and
booked at the Mat Su Pre Trial Facility on the charge of DUI. Heaton’s
bail was set at $1,500 cash corporate.

Text: On 10-02-08 at approximately 2127 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to the report of a disturbance at a residence near E. Echo
Ave. in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Jody Lee Speerstra age 31 of
Wasilla, assaulted a family member. Speerstra fled the scene prior to
Troopers arrival. Speerstra was later contacted in Wasilla and
subsequently arrested for Assault IV involving Domestic Violence.
Speerstra was transported to MSPT where he was remanded into custody

Text: On 10/02/08 at approximately 2135 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a REDDI report of an intoxicated male operating a red Yamaha
four-wheeler northbound along the Parks Highway near mile 98. Troopers
located the ATV at the intersection of the Parks Highway and the
Talkeetna Spur. Investigation revealed Dylan H. James, age 29 of
Anchorage, was operating the ATV while impaired and under the influence
of alcohol. Further investigation revealed that James had two prior DUI
convictions in the past 10 years. James was arrested, transported and
remanded into Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with bail was set at $10,000 cash
only.

Text: On 10/3/08 at approximately 0201 hours Alaska State Troopers
responded to a 911 hang-up call at a residence off Ardgour Court in
Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Mark A. Murray had originally
called to report a theft, but hung up and attempted to dial the business
number. Murray reported that on 10/2/08 between the hours of 1630 and
1900 approximately $700 was stolen from his wallet from inside his
residence. Investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about
this theft is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131 or
Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Text: On 10-3-08 at approximately 0400 hours Alaska State Troopers
responded to an address on Genoa Ct. in Big Lake for the report of an
assault in progress. Investigation revealed, Zeb Weaver, age 29, of Big
Lake, assaulted a family member and interfered with the report of the
domestic violence crime to the Troopers. Weaver was arrested and
transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he as remanded on no
bail.

Text: At about 1410 hours on 10-3-08, Trevor L. Ambercrombie , 20 years
of age from Wasilla, was contacted by the Judicial Services Warrant
Section, Palmer and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force for a warrant
service at his residence in Wasilla. The warrant was for Failure to
Appear for Pre-Trial Conference on the original charge of Misconduct
Involving A Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Controlled substance 5th
Degree and Controlled Substance 6th Degree. He was lodged at Mat Su

Text: On 10/3/08 at approximately 0759 hours, the Alaska State Troopers
received information from Colony Middle School that missing and presumed
stolen was a small quantity of a chemical that was determined to be
dangerous if mishandled. The school district decided to move students
from the school to the Colony Highschool next door to allow for an
expeditious search of the premises. Responding personnel included MatSu
School District personnel, MatSu EMS and Hazmat responders, Alaska
Wildlife Troopers, and Alaska State Troopers who conducted a search of
the school. Following a search of the school without locating the
chemical, students were allowed to return. Alaska State Trooper
investigation revealed that a 14 year old Colony Middle School student
was responsible for the removal of the chemicals from the school. Alaska
State Troopers recovered the chemicals from the student’s house and
returned it to school officials. Charges of Theft II are being
forwarded to Matsu Juvenile Intake.

Type: MVC-D, Reckless Driving
Text: On 10-03-2008 at approximately 1045 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a motor vehicle collision on Bogard Rd and Merciful Ln.
near Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Gabriel Dennis, age 22 of
Wasilla, was operating his 1992 Oldsmobile sedan west on Bogard Rd. when
he passed vehicles in a no-passing zone. When another westbound
vehicle, a 1995 Ford F-250 operated by Travis Kish of Wasilla, attempted
to flag Dennis down, Dennis’ vehicle collided into Kish’s vehicle. No
injuries were reported and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $750. Alcohol was not a factor
in the collision. Dennis was issued a summons for reckless driving and
released at the scene.

Troopers received a REDDI report of an intoxicated driver. Allen Afcan,
28 yoa of St. Mary’s, was stopped while operating a red Jeep Cherokee
for traveling on the left side of the roadway. Afcan was arrested for
Driving under the Influence after failing to satisfactorily complete the
field sobriety tests. Afcan was transported to the St. Marys Jail.

Text: On Wednesday, 10-1-08, at about 1900 hours, the Old Harbor Village
Public Safety Officer responded to a report of an aggressive bear in the
downtown area of Old Harbor. The bear was aggressive to citizens of Old
Harbor and to the VPSO. The VPSO attempted to chase the bear off
repeatedly with hazing rounds. The bear refused to leave the downtown
area and was subsequently euthanized by the VPSO in defense of life and
property.

Kotzebue were in the village of Noatak and arrested David Graham, 28, of

Mischief IV-DV. Graham was remanded at Kotzebue Regional Jail where

Text: On 10/02/08, approximately 1045 hrs., the VPSO for Manokotak
received a report of an individual operating a vehicle while
intoxicated. The VPSO contacted the driver, identified as Henry
Alakyak, Jr., age 32, of Manokotak. Investigation revealed that
Alakayak, Jr. was intoxicated and he was arrested and transported to
Dillingham where he was lodged into jail on the charge of Driving Under
the Influence of Alcohol, pending arraignment.

Text: On 10-1-08 the Alaska State Troopers in King Salmon responded to a
report of a domestic violence assault that had occurred in the village
of Nondalton. Troopers arrived in the village and found the suspect,
Earl Balluta, age 50 of Nondalton to be heavily intoxicated.
Investigation revealed that Earl Balluta assaulted his wife and had also
been driving his four-wheeler while intoxicated. Earl Balluta was
arrested for Assault 4 DV and DUI. Balluta was transported to the King
Salmon jail where he was remanded on these charges.

night of 10/2/08. The vehicle was recovered on the morning on 10/3/08.
The investigation is ongoing, there are currently no suspects.

Text: On 10-2-08, at approximately 1330 hours, AST attempted to make
contact with Roger Stone for an outstanding warrant. Stone fled on foot
into his property on Bear Avenue near Hollowell Road. After a 2 hour
search utilizing a K-9 and helicopter, AST located Roger Stone and
arrested him on the outstanding warrant for failing to report to jail to
serve a 2 year sentence on a drug related charge. Additional charges
are being referred to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Type: Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, No Insurance,
No Valid Operators License, Hindering Prosecution
Text: On 10/02/08 at approximately 1717 hours, troopers responded to
mile 3.5 Tanana Loop Road for the report of a hit and run. Karol
Blessing, of Delta Junction reported that she was traveling east on
Tanana Loop Road in her 2002 Ford Explorer, when she crested the top of
a hill she noticed a small purple car traveling west in her lane. The
purple 1996 Chevy Cavalier was being driven recklessly by Andrey F.
Malyk, age 16, of Delta Junction. After the two vehicles collided
Andrey drove away without giving any information to Karol. Troopers
located a license plate from Andrey’s vehicle that was left behind after
the collision. Troopers were able to track Andrey to a gravel pit off
of Berm Road where he was trying to hide the vehicle. Another driver
was waiting at the pit to give Andrey a ride. Andrey was issued a
summons to appear in court. Andrey is charged with Reckless Driving,
Leaving the Scene of an Accident, No Insurance, and No Valid Operators
License. Additional charges are pending and the driver of the second
vehicle will be charged with Hindering Prosecution in the Second Degree.
Karol’s vehicle was disabled and had to be towed. Andrey’s vehicle was
impounded. There were no injuries reported.

Type: Misuse of Plates, No Insurance
Text: On 10/02/08 troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement were
conducting routine Level 1 commercial vehicle inspections. At
approximately 1146 hours, a stop was made on a 1977 Dump Truck at Emmaus
Road and the Alaska Highway. The driver of the vehicle was identified
as Pavlo Kulakevich, age 44, of Delta Junction. Investigation revealed
Pavlo was operating a dump truck where the license plates had been
changed to show that there was current registration. The vehicle was
placed out of service for multiple violations. Pavlo was issued a
citation for Marking of Commercial Vehicle, a citation for False
Statement for having an altered medical card, a citation for No Medical
Certificate while driving a CMV, and a citation for No Periodic
Inspection. Pavlo will additionally be charged with not having
Insurance while operating a CMV. Pavlo was issued a summons to appear
in court.

Text: On 10/3/08, at approximately 1233 hours, AST Fairbanks received a
report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bradway and
Snowbird in North Pole. The investigation revealed that Steven Young,
age 21of North Pole, operating a 2001 Chevy Impala, was turning west off
of Snowbird onto Bradway when he crossed into the eastbound lane of
Bradway colliding with a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Christine Cooper,
age 37 of North Pole. Damage was estimated at $2500 to both vehicles.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and no injuries were reported.
Further investigation revealed that Young was in possession of a
controlled substance which he attempted to hid under a nearby piece of
wood. Young was arrested and transported to FCC for remand pending
arraignment. Young is charged with one count of Misconduct Involving a
Controlled Substance as well as Probation Violations. Young was also
cited for failure to use due care to avoid an accident.

Text: On October 3, 2008, at about 1515 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a motor vehicle rollover on Bradway Road in North Pole.
Investigation revealed that Heather Ney, 28 of North Pole, lost control
of her 2002 Dodge Dakota and overturned in the ditch. Both Ney and her
passenger, Paul Bunn, 27 of North Pole, were not injured and both were
wearing safety belts.

Text: On 10-2-08, Dutch Harbor AWT summonsed John R. McKee, age 22, of
Vancouver Washington, after it was discovered that McKee, permit holder
aboard the FV Zenith, commercial fished for and landed 3,171 pounds of
Sablefish in state waters without his boat being properly registered for
the 2008 Aleutian Islands State-Waters Sablefish Season. Arraignment is
scheduled for 10/29/08 for the Unalaska District Court.

Text: On 10-3-08, 62 year old Hubert L. Chatin of Carson City, NV was
charged with one count of Taking a sub legal Dall Sheep. The charge
resulted after an investigation which showed that Chatin took a six year
old ram that was less than full curl on 8/17/08 near Sheep Mountain in
Game Management Unit 19C. The sheep horns were seized as evidence, and
arraignment is scheduled in McGrath District Court on 10-29-08.

Text: On 10/1/08 Alaska Wildlife Troopers received reports of a moose
carcass floating in Church Slough near Bethel. Scene investigation
revealed a healthy calf which was shot several times at close range, and
left to die. Evidence suggests at least two individuals were involved
with the shooting, and were probably traveling by boat in Church Slough
sometime between Sunday, September 28th, 2008 and Tuesday, Sept 30th,
2008. Troopers are asking for anyone with information (including
anonymous tips) to call 543-5955 for Trp. Cresswell. Troopers also
appreciate the numerous calls received from concerned citizens reporting
a suspicious individual (Wildlife Trooper) butchering a moose in Church
Slough on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 1st, 2008. Salvageable
meat was donated to an approved Bethel area Charity.

Type: Robbery 1 (x2), Assault 3 (x2), Theft 2, Tampering w/ Evidence
Text: On 10/2/08 at approximately 2000 hours, AST received a 911 call
from a Clerk at the Valley Country Store, located at the Bogard Ninety,
reporting a white male adult had just brandished a knife and attempted
to rob the convenience store. The clerk advised dispatchers that the
suspect fled the scene in a dark colored 4-door sedan. At approximately
2020 hours AST received a 911 call from the clerk of the Tesoro located
on Wasilla Fishhook and Selden intersection reporting that a white male
adult had just brandished a knife and had robbed her of off all the cash
in the register. AST responded to and secured both robbery scenes. A
locate for the suspect vehicle was aired to AST, Wasilla PD and Palmer
PD. At 2039 hours, Wasilla PD officers located a vehicle matching the
description of the suspect vehicle; stopped with its lights off on Stone
Haven Cir. Wasilla PD took two male suspects into custody. AST patrol
and additional Wasilla PD officers responded and located a jacket that
had been hidden approximately 25′ from the vehicle in the woods. There
was approximately $889 in the pockets of the jacket. Investigation at
the scene revealed the suspects had run out of gas and that Aafedt had
entered a nearby apartment looking for gas for the vehicle. Aafedt was
turned away by the apartment owner and returned to the suspect vehicle
prior to WPD contact. The suspects, Dillian Aafedt, age 19, of Wasilla,
and Emmanuil Y. Kirillov, age 19, of Wasilla were transported to Palmer
AST and were remanded to Matsu Pre-trial charged with Robbery 1 (x2), Assault 3
(x2), Theft 2, and Tampering with Evidence. Bail was set at $40,000
cash plus CATP for Aafedt and $25,000 cash plus CATP for Emmanuil. The
vehicle was impounded to MTR.
