Medford, Oregon - Burglary,Forgery and Identity Theft Arrests

On 100108 an employee of John L. Scott Reality reported a burglary to their business. The suspect (s) took personal checks belonging to the victim and other property from the business, to include over 70 house keys to homes listed for sale by the business. The investigation revealed the suspect attempted to pass some the stolen checks at Fred Meyer Stores in Medford and Grants Pass, without success.
Detective Ivens and Detective Ford began investigating the case and learned that an office inside Sears was burglarized the same day and time frame as the John L. Scott case. The suspect had stolen clothing and store identification as he purported to be a Sears employee. Other employees confronted him and he fled.
Witnesses from both cases provided suspect descriptions and Detectives were able to positively identify the suspect as 28 year old Joshua Richie, a convicted felon.
On 100208, MPD Detectives with the assistance of Grants Pass Police and Oregon State Police, were able to locate Ritchie and his accomplice, Michael Johnson, at a motel in Grants Pass. Both were taken into custody. Detectives located property stolen from the burglaries to include all of the missing house keys. Due to the timely arrest, Detectives do not believe the suspects were able to commit additional burglaries with the stolen house keys.
