(Lincoln, NE)- An effort designed to draw attention to the importance of proper commercial vehicle brake inspection, maintenance and operation resulted in 147 trucks taken out of service for bad brakes, by the Carrier Enforcement Division of the Nebraska State Patrol.

During Brake Safety Week, September 22-26, 2008, Nebraska State Patrol CVSA-certified inspectors conducted 916 level one inspections.  A level one inspection is a comprehensive check of the vehicle and its driver.

Troopers conducting the inspections found 100 brake adjustment violations and 67 brake component violations.   A total of 147 vehicles were taken out of service for brake violations.  Along with the inspections, troopers provided educational information emphasizing the importance of maintaining the brake systems on commercial vehicles.
