EMBARGOED UNTIL 3:30 P.M. ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2008
(Lincoln, NE)- The Nebraska State Patrol will conduct surprise commercial vehicle inspections today, Thursday, September 25, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in North Platte.
The morning and afternoon inspections will be conducted at 1402 North Jeffers Street (mm84 on Highway 83), and 4600 South Parkway (mm79 on Highway 83).
The inspections are performed by the Metropolitan Aggressive and Preventive Selective (MAPS) Team which is funded largely by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Troopers assigned to the Carrier Enforcement Division of the Nebraska State Patrol check for compliance with federal safety regulations and enforce laws pertaining to weight, size, registration, and permits associated with commercial vehicles (trucks, truck tractors, semi trailers, and buses). The MAPS Team was implemented in 1998 and consists of 36 troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol’s Carrier Enforcement Division. On average, 20-25 troopers work each MAPS event.
To protect the surprise element of the inspections, all media are asked to withhold any public reporting of the inspections until 3:00 p.m. today. The results of the MAPS enforcement activity will be available after 4:00 p.m. today, a news release will be issued and the results will be posted at www.nsp.state.ne.us under News Highlights.
