On 09/17/08 at 0833 hours the Vermont State Police responded to US Route 7 in Sunderland Vermont for a reported single vehicle crash with injuries. The vehicle involved, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler had lost control and left the roadway as it travelled north on US Route 7. The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting the operator and coming to rest off of the roadway. The operator, Melanie Muniz was transported to the Albany Medical Center via helicopter due to her extensive injuries.

During the investigation it was discovered that Muniz was not wearing her seatbelt and this was a factor in the seriousness of her injuries. A witness reported that Muniz drifted off the roadway and then swerved back onto the road, losing control of her vehicle. This crash remains under investigation by police although alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
