On Sunday, September 7th, Dane County will be host to the Ironman Triathlon. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. participants will be traveling along numerous roadways in downtown Madison, Fitchburg, Verona, Mount Horeb, and much of western Dane County.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding law enforcement agencies expect significant traffic delays and ask that motorists be patient and plan ahead. The course timelines will be published in local newspapers along with suggested alternate routes for area motorists. During much of the triathlon, Sheriff’s Deputies, Police Officers, and volunteers will direct traffic at all major intersections along the course. Please use caution when approaching these intersections and follow the traffic directions given by law enforcement to ensure your safety and the safety of the Ironman participants and spectators.
The event consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike race, and a 26.2-mile marathon. For more information about the Ironman Triathlon courses, please visit the Ironman Wisconsin website at www.ironmanwisconsin.com.
