Felony Arrests Reported for September 01, 2008

Derrick Felton, 27, of N. Adams St in Akron was charged with Burglary. Felton and Tramiel Leason were found inside 610 Stanley Rd without permission, Felton had the victims debit card in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Tramiel Leason, 27, of Tomahawk Ave in Akron was charged with Burglary. Leason and Derrick Felton were found inside 610 Stanley Rd without the owner’s permission.

Michael Anthony Rucker, 25, of Jewett St in Akron was charged with Aggravated Robbery. Rucker participated in a robbery outside the Rainbow Bar and Grille located at 805 Upson St on August 16, 2008. Rucker’s accomplice put a gun to the victim’s head during the robbery.

Laurie A. Martin, 38, of Barder St in Akron was charged with Theft from the Elderly, Forgery, and Uttering. Martin was the caretaker of a 65-year-old female on Callis Dr in Akron. Martin stole two checks from the victim and cashed them.

Robert H. Tucker III, 23, of Callis Oval in Akron was charged with Domestic Violence; previous conviction and Burglary. Tucker came to the victim’s place of employment and started knocking on the door. When the victim told Tucker to leave, he removed the window screen, reached in and unlocked the door, and entered. The victim fled out a side door. Tucker chased the victim, knocked her down, and kicked her. He has two prior convictions for domestic violence.

Junior C. Loughrie, 55, of 16th St in Akron was charged with Aggravated Arson. Loughrie knowingly set fire to a 12-unit apartment building and then fled. No injuries.

Reginald T. Barham, 47, of Peerless Ave in Akron was charged with Domestic Violence; previous conviction, and Domestic Violence Menacing. Barham got into a physical fight with his live-in girlfriend. He assaulted and threatened to beat her if she did not go home with him. He has a prior conviction for domestic violence.

Donald MP Keller, 27, of Dayton Place in Akron was charged with Possession of Drugs (cocaine). Keller was a passenger in a vehicle stopped at Elma and E. Cuyahoga Falls Ave for investigative reasons. When officers approached the car, they observed a plastic bag containing a white residue. Officers tested the residue, and it was positive for cocaine.

Michelle L. Banyar, 26, of 8th St in Barberton was charged with Possession of Drugs (cocaine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Banyar was the passenger in a vehicle stopped at Carey Ave and 26th St SW for expired license plate. Banyar possessed powdered cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Frank E. Edwards Jr, 35 of 8th St in Barberton was charged with Possession of Drugs (cocaine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Edwards was the driver of a vehicle stopped at Carey Ave and 26th St SW for expired license plate. Edwards possessed powdered cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Willie Matthews, 66, of Brighton Dr was charged with Attempted Drug Abuse, Drug Paraphernalia, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon; knife. Matthews was observed walking in a known drug area talking to a suspected drug dealer. Officer stopped him. Matthews had crumbs of crack/cocaine in his possession and Chore Boy in his pocket. He also had a locking blade razor knife in his pocket.

William A. Porubsky, 21, of Herberich Ave in Akron was charged with Robbery. Porubsky went over to the 600 block of Garry Rd and asked the owner of a Pitbull if he could take the dog for a walk in the park and play with it. The owner told Porubsky no. Porubsky then shoved the victim down and took the door by force.

Sanford Morris, 39, of Chittenden St in Akron was charged with Breaking and Entering. Morris admitted to officers that hew as at the rear of 474 Ardella Ave during the time a rear door was kicked in. The homeowner identified Morris.

Tina R. Wilson, 38, of Ira Ave in Akron was charged with Drug Abuse; Methamphetamines, Criminal Tools, and Drug Paraphernalia. Wilson was arrested on outstanding warrants. When officers search her belongings, they found several Baggies of Methamphetamines residue, digital scales, coffee filters, glass drug smoking pipe, razor blades, rolling papers, and straws used for snorting.

Derrick Jerome McCoy, 29, of Noah Ave in Akron was charged with three counts of Aggravated Robbery. McCoy and Fontella Avery were inside Toby’s Skill Games located at 2196 Romig Rd. When the business was closing, McCoy produced a gun and robbed the employee and other customers of money.

Matthew A. Haenftling, 25, of Ivor St in Akron was charge with Rape. Haenftling sexually assaulted an 18-year-old female.

Pierre B. Jenkins, 20, of Jefferson Ave in Akron was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon. The vehicle he was riding in was stopped for traffic violations at Rand Ave and Cedar St. Jenkins was seated on the floor of the vehicle between the front and rear seats. Officers could detect a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, officers found three loaded handguns. Jenkins was within arms reach of the weapons.

Anthony D. Easter, 26, of Baughman St in Akron was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Weapons under Disability. The vehicle he was riding in was stopped for traffic violations at Rand Ave and Cedar St. Easter was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers could detect a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, officers found three loaded handguns. Easter had a loaded gun under his seat. He has prior felony conviction for trafficking cocaine and a CCW conviction; therefor he is not permitted to be in possession of a gun.

Brandon Ricks, 20, of Pilgrim Ave in Akron was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Improper Handling of a Firearm and Weapons under Disability. Ricks was stopped at Rand and Cedar St for driving under suspended license and a warrant. Officers detected a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, officers found three loaded handguns in the car. He has prior felony convictions placing him on disability.

Trevor J. Jenkins, 22, of St. Michael’s St in Akron was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Improper Handling of a Firearm, Weapons under Disability, and OVI. Jenkins was stopped at Rand and Cedar St for driving under suspended license and a warrant. Officers detected a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, officers found three loaded handguns in the car. He has prior felony convictions placing him on disability. He also was arrested for OVI (.138) resulting in an Improper Handling violation with the weapons.

Antoine D. Gray, 18, of W. Miller St in Akron was charged with Aggravated Robbery. Gray took $24.00 from the victim, Ronald Legg. After the victim tried to stop Gray, Gray hit the victim with his car, causing minor injuries.

William J. Cartwright, 38, of S. Water St in Kent, Ohio was charged with Failure to Comply (Felony). Cartwright ran from police after attempting a traffic stop. He ran several traffic lights and led officers on a high-speed chase without due regard for himself or others.

Brian Wilson, 27, of Tyler Ave in Akron was charged with Domestic Violence; previous conviction. Wilson grabbed and choked his children’s mother. He has a prior conviction for domestic violence.

Kevin L. Vest, 37, of W. Waterloo rd in Akron was charged with Domestic Violence; previous conviction. Vest became physically aggressive towards his live-in girlfriend. She suffered a swollen lip and bruises on her arms. He has prior convictions.

Johnny Howard, 51, of Alphada Ave in Akron was charged with Felonious Assault. Howard was involved in an altercation with a Dante Ray. Howard used a knife and cut the arm of Ray, causing a severe laceration that required surgery.

Calvin D. Hardeway, 25, of E. Wilbeth Rd in Akron was charged with Domestic Violence, Domestic Violence Menacing, and Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication. Hardeway came home drunk and tried to fall asleep on his newborn baby. His wife tried to move him, and he punched her in the face and chased her around. He has a prior conviction for domestic violence. The baby was not injured.

Ricky L. Wallace, 18, of Brown St in Akron was charged with Trafficking in Drugs and Possession of Crack/Cocaine. Officers responded to a fight at 1059 Brown St. As officers approached they observed Wallace shoving something in his right front pants pocket. He gave officers consent to search. Officers found a bag, containing five smaller Baggies of crack/cocaine.

Teddy T. Moore, 45, of Lindsey Ave in Akron was charged with Receiving Stolen Property (auto). Moore was stopped at 906 Valdes driving a stolen vehicle.

John Ford, 36, of Joy Ave in Akron was charged with Domestic Violence; previous conviction. Ford punched the victim in the face and pushed her down the steps. They have children in common. He also has a prior conviction.

James A, Coplin, 25, of W. Bartges St in Akron was charged with Attempted Murder, Felonious Assault, and Tampering with Evidence. Coplin choked the victim until she was unconscious. He then dropped her on the ground, causing her to hit her face on the cement patio. He then stabbed her in the stomach. As Coplin ran from the scene, he tossed a knife in the neighbor’s yard.

Major Incidents Reported for September 01, 2008

Robbery:

Shortly after midnight on Friday night, a delivery driver for Domino’s Pizza located on Graham Rd in Cuyahoga Falls reported being robbed. The driver reported that he noticed two males standing in the driveway as he attempted to deliver food in the 1700 block of Horizon Dr. When the driver tried to return to his car, one of the males punched him in the face and took the food. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction. Paramedics treated the driver on scene for minor injuries.

The suspects were two black males between 24 – 28 years old. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.
Felonious Assault:

Shortly before 5:00 Saturday evening, two males were involved in a verbal altercation outside an apartment complex in the 800 block of Donald Ave when shots were fired. One of the males, Justin L. Walker, 22, was shot in the foot. Walker was taken to a local hospital for treatment where his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The other male involved has not been identified.

During the altercation on Donald Ave a 7-year-old female was shot in the left hand. She was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment where her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact our department.
Homicide:

Detectives are investigating the shooting death of Eric Michael Helms, 35, of Bachtel Ave. Helms was shot several times outside the residence at 136 Bachtel Ave around 10:00 Saturday night. He was transported to Akron General Medical Center where he later died. An autopsy has been scheduled for today by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

There is no motive for the shooting at this time. The only description of the suspect is a black male. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.
