Port Allen, LA - Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests

PORT ALLEN- On the morning of August 25, 2008, Troopers with State Police Troop A stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Port Allen for a traffic violation, resulting in the arrest of two men for possession of illegal narcotics, cash and a firearm.
Fontane T. Caples (B/M, 28 years old of Nashville, TN) was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion I-10 eastbound, east of La Highway 415 when he was stopped by troopers for a traffic violation. Caples gave troopers conflicting information when he was interviewed, which raised their suspicion. When asked for consent to search his vehicle, Caples refused.
A State Police K-9 was brought to the scene and he alerted troopers to possible contraband inside of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 170 pounds of marijuana, 1,245 doses of Hydrocodone, and other drug paraphernalia. A Ruger .45 caliber pistol was also found under the driver’s seat along with $27,655.00 in cash located in the glove compartment.
Caples was placed under arrest along with his passenger, Demond Caples (B/M, 32 yrs old of Vicksburg, Ms). Both subjects were booked into the West Baton Rouge Detention Center on the charges of Possession of Mariijuana, Possession of Hydrocodone, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession of A Firearm with drugs. Fontaine Caples was also charged with Improper Lane Use.
