Wellton, Arizona - 1 Dead, 1 Injured in Residential Fire

YUMA, ARIZONA, AUGUST 25, 2008: On 08-24-08 at approximately 0109 hours, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential fire at the above location.
The occupant of the residence, 62 year old Joyce Johnson, sustained fatal injuries in the fire. The adult son of Ms. Johnson, Benny Timothy, was also seriously injured during an attempted rescue of his mother. Mr. Timothy has been flown to St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix where he is in critical condition.
A third victim, Mr. Pedro Ochoa, 52, of Wellton, lost his home when the fire spread to his residence which sat next door to the original fire. Mr. Ochoa was not physically injured.
Both homes were a total loss. At this time, the fire appears to have been accidental in nature and is believed to have been started by a cigarette.
