On Monday, August 25, 2008 at approximately 1:54 am the Idaho State Police Regional Communications Center East received an attempt to locate welfare check from the Box Elder Sheriff’s office of a possible kidnapping.
The Box Elder County Sheriff’s office found a note that appeared to have been written by an adult female at a campground claiming to have been kidnapped and made reference to a license plate that was a close match of a vehicle located at the residence of Todd L. Taylor on Vasser Way in Idaho Falls.
Trooper Nelson located the vehicle and attempted to interview the occupants with the assistance of the Idaho Falls Police Department. Todd L. Taylor was contacted at the residence and became belligerent and non compliant with the interview. Trooper Nelson sought and received a search warrant for the residence.
Trooper Nelson and the Idaho Falls Police Swat team executed the warrant in the early morning hours. During the search of the residence a stolen firearm was found along with drug paraphernalia and controlled substances. There was no evidence found that would indicate a kidnapped victim had been held at the residence. Todd L. Taylor was taken into custody for possession of a stolen gun, drug possession and possession of paraphernalia. He was incarcerated at the Bonneville County Jail.
As of 4:00 PM on August 25, 2008 no one has provided Utah authorities with any additional information that would confirm a person had been kidnapped or if the note was a hoax. The investigation is still on going in both Utah and Idaho. Citizens are asked to watch for vehicle with a license plate number of 8B4231 OR 8B4Z31. This alphanumeric sequence is consistent with Idaho license plates but could be displayed on a vehicle bearing any State license plate. If you have any information please call the Idaho State Police at (208) 525-7277 or *ISP on your cell phone.

Give ‘em a safe space to work! Remember – Idaho’s “Move Over Law” requires you to slow down and get into the left lane when possible when passing officers and emergency responders working on the roadside.
