On 08.19.08 at approximately 2200 hrs., the Vermont State Police were called and advised of a shooting that had occurred in the town of Leicester. When Police arrived they found the victim, Carroll, had been shot once in the leg.

A description of the suspect vehicle was issued to all area law enforcement and the white Cadillac Escalade was sighted soon after in Pittsford, VT. VSP Troopers attempted to turn around and chase this vehicle. During this attempt to intercept this Escalade, a Rutland City K-9 Officer was attempting to deploy tire deflation spikes on Route 7. While he was doing this, his K-9 jumped out of his cruiser and was struck and killed by a Vermont State Police cruiser that was involved in the pursuit.

This Escalade was able to get away and soon after a car-jacking was reported on Wheelerville Road in Mendon. 3 people reported being assaulted by 4 black males driving a white Escalade, brandishing a knife. The Escalade was left on Wheelerville Road and the suspects then got onto Rte. 4 West. A Castleton Unit spotted this stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. Tire deflation spikes were set across Rte. 4 and the stolen vehicle drove over the spikes, deflating several tires. The vehicle then crashed into the guardrail and two of the four males took off running into the woods. Two other males were arrested in the vehicle.

Two State Police K-9 Units, a Fish and Game K-9 Unit and numerous police officers from multiple agencies, including N.Y. State participated in the search for the two males. They were both arrested soon after, one after he jumped into a pond.

All four males will be charged with Robbery and Assault, and the operator of the vehicles, Hickey, is being charged with Attempting to Elude and will be issued numerous tickets.

The initial victim, Carroll, has not given a statement about these events. No charges have been brought yet regarding the shooting, but may be forthcoming.
