On July 22, at 10:45 a.m., New Bern police responded to 2507 Dogwood Dr., where a small child was reported to be unresponsive after falling into a swimming pool. When officers arrived, emergency medical personnel were transporting the 20 month-old to Craven Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The child’s mother said she was napping with the child earlier. When she woke up, she found the girl in the backyard swimming pool and called 9-1-1. The incident is still under investigation by the New Bern Police Department.
