Houston - Fatal Traffic Accident at 13100 East Freeway

July 21, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 13100 block of the East Freeway (Interstate 10 East) about 7:45 p.m. on Friday (July 18).
The names of the two deceased victims are pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. Four other persons were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R.A. Gonzales and Officer P. Robles reported:
Five vehicles were involved in an accident on the inbound lanes of the East Freeway. Witnesses stated one vehicle swerved across two lanes of traffic and then struck three other vehicles on the shoulder of the freeway. At that time, two people were standing on the freeway’s shoulder. Those two were struck and killed. One other vehicle was also struck.
After the accident, the driver of the swerving vehicle that caused the accident fled the scene on foot for a short time, but later returned.
The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
