July 18, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 14100 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate 45 South) service road about 2:40 a.m. today (July 18).

The victim, Melissa Manriquez, 18, was transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital then transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer A. Alaniz reported:

Ms. Manriquez was traveling northbound in the 14100 block of the Gulf Freeway service road in a white Ford Explorer XLT at a high rate of speed when she struck the curb on the right side of the roadway. The Explorer then rolled over and Manriquez was ejected from the vehicle.

There were no other passengers in the Explorer and no other vehicles were involved in this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
