On July 17, 2008 at approximately 1:00 AM, a single vehicle crash on LA 308 in Cut Off, LA claimed the life of a Florida man. James Baggett (W/M, 54, of Englewood, Florida) was traveling north on LA 308 in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra when his vehicle left the roadway to the right and entered a ditch. Baggett’s vehicle struck a culvert, crossed a private drive, and entered a second ditch.

Once exiting the ditch, Baggett’s vehicle overturned and struck a fence post before coming to rest. Baggett was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was wearing a seat belt, but it is unknown whether or not he was wearing his seat belt properly. Baggett was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was drawn from Baggett by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office for analysis and toxicology results are pending.
