Traffic Disruptions for July 14, 2008.
Road closures for the 2008 All American Soap Box Derby
Monday July 14th 2008 from 8:00AM until approximately 3:00PM.
The Akron Police Department will be shutting down streets in downtown Akron for the annual welcoming of all soap box derby champions.
Main Street will be blocked from Exchange to Bowery.
State Street will be closed from Broadway to Water.
Access to the State Street parking deck will be provided from the Bowery Street side of State only.
Buchtel Avenue from Broadway to Main.
Northbound Main will have access from both University and Church Street.

Major Incidents Reported for July 14, 2008.
Akron Police Seeks Two Suspects in Unrelated Burglaries that Occurred Over the Weekend:
Police need your help in locating Michael Lawrence Rardon, 35, of Penthley Ave and Andrew Johnson Jr, 45, of Cloverdale Ave, for unrelated burglaries that occurred over the weekend.
Rardon is wanted after he broke into the Brown St. Café located at 1090 Brown St. early Saturday morning. Rardon broke out a north side basement window to gain access. Taken was a minimal amount of money.
Johnson is wanted after he broke into the Da Nook Stop located at 604 Home Ave. on Saturday morning. Johnson forced open an east side door to gain access. Once inside he then pried open a cabinet and removed money.
Michael Lawrence Rardon is a white male, 5’09” tall and weighs about 160 lbs. Andrew Johnson Jr. is a black male, 6’02” tall and weighs about 240 lbs. Anyone with information of Rardon’s or Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to contact our department.

Felony reports for July 14, 2008
Michael A. Stallworth, 24, 1231 Marcy St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Weapons under Disability. Michael was found to be in possession of a rifle and a revolver at 1231 Marcy St.
Denane Martee Pollard, 25, 465 Willow St., Akron, Ohio was charged with complicity and Receiving Stolen Property. Denane participated in an aggravated robbery. Denane contacted the victim and set up a meeting. Once at the meeting location the victim was held up at gun point. Denane was stopped at 491 Douglas St. and was found with the victims wallet with cash and credit cards along with the victim’s identification and social security card.
Robert J. Aiken, 56, 1600 Brittain Rd. #426A., Akron, Ohio was charged with Robbery. Robert assaulted the victim at 791 E. Market St. Robert took the victim’s wallet that contained his ID, cash and coins.
Timothy A. Bryant, 19, 140 Edward Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Theft. Timothy stolen property from the victim of 250 Alpha Ave. Timothy admitted to stealing the items and then selling them to William Gamble of 140 Edward Ave.
William R. Gamble, 30, 140 Edward Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property. William was found to be in possession of stolen property belonging to the victim of 250 Alpha Ave.
Joseph M. Hrabusa, 37, 580 Orchard Ave., Barberton, Ohio was charged with Willful Flee, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Traffic Charges and Driving under the Influence Left of Center. Joseph was observed driving recklessly on Vernon Odom Blvd and Romig Rd. Joseph was followed into Norton refusing to stop for the police. Norton PD blocked the lane of travel and once apprehended was found to be highly intoxicated.
Thomas D. Lavaile Sr., 39, 265 E. Lods St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property. Thomas was apprehended by police driving a stolen vehicle at 878 Whittier Ave.
Scott A. Popovich Jr., 25, 651 Elma Ave. #1, Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property. Officers were driving behind a motorcycle that pulled up onto the sidewalk at 662 Brittain Rd. Scott was found to be driving on a suspended license. The bike had no license plate and was found to be stolen.
Mark A. Harper Jr., 23, 851 Cliffside Dr., Akron, Ohio was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Improper Handling Firearms, Sound Amp and Willful Flee. Mark had his music up load, fled from the police in the vehicle and had a loaded pistol in the center console.
Monte M. Evans, 25, 1288 Stoner Ave, Akron, Ohio was charged with Discharge Firearm, Inducing Panic, Tampering with Evidence and Weapons under Disability. Monte discharged a sawed-off shotgun in front of 1267 Nome Ave. and then gathered up the used shells and concealed them after the incident.
Odie D. Strickland, 29, 1267 Nome Ave., Akron, Ohio was charged with Discharging Firearm, Inducing Panic, Tampering with Evidence and Dangerous Ordinance. Odie was observed in the drivers seat at 1267 Nome Ave. Odie matched the description of the suspect shooting a shotgun at this location. Odie admitted to having a sawed-off shotgun in his apartment and throwing shells in trash can.
Marcus L. Avent, 22, 212 Gale St., Akron, Ohio was charged with Receiving Stolen Property Auto and Drug Abuse Marijuana. Marcus was observed in a stolen auto at Copley Rd onto Grace Ave. Marcus was stopped at Little Ave. and Storer Ave. Marcus was found to be in possession of drugs.
