The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and the US Forest Service are currently working a large wild fire south of Crown King in the Bradshaw Mountains. On Saturday June 28th YCSO was conducting a Search and Rescue effort to locate five lost hikers in that same area. Apparently one of the hikers left the group to find a way out and when that person became lost he set a signal fire that eventually got out of hand.

As of June 29th, YCSO and their search and rescue units are in the area and evacuating Crown King and Horse Thief Basin. No one is being allowed into these areas and campers are being asked to leave as well. People in these areas are being asked to leave at once and if necessary they can go the Mayer High School in Spring Valley where the Red Cross is also setting up.

The fire is being fought by ground units form the US Forest Service as well as air support from small planes and helicopters.
