Louisiana State Police – Troop I is investigating a three vehicle fatal crash on La 93 at Vatican road, within Lafayette Parish.
Forty-three year Connie Blackard of Slaughter, La was stopped at the stop sign on Vatican Road at its intersection with La 93. Sixty-nine year old Tommy Suarez of Sunset, La was traveling north on La 93 approaching Vatican road. Forty-two year old Paul Royer of Scott, La was stopped on La 93 southbound, preparing to turn left onto Vatican road.
Blackard failed to other traffic on La 93 and was struck by the Suarez vehicle. After the impact, the Suarez vehicle then struck the Royer vehicle head-on. A passenger in the Suarez vehicle, sixty-eight year old Nellie Suarez of Sunset, La, was not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured in the crash. This crash remains under investigation.
This is the twenty-second fatal crash and the twenty-third fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
