South Dakota - Fatal Crash West of Rapid City

On May 22 2008 at about 10:25 AM, a fatal crash occurred on Interstate 90 about 13 miles west of Rapid City. A 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by 63 year old Geraldene M. Werlinger of Sturgis, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90. The vehicle left the roadway and entered the south ditch. The vehicle slid sideways and struck a concrete bridge embankment and went airborne. The vehicle landed on the opposite creek embankment. The vehicle rolled up the embankment and came to rest on the wheels.
It is unknown at this time why the vehicle left the roadway.
The driver was not ejected and it is believed that seatbelts were worn. Meade County Sheriffs Office assisted. The crash remains under investigation. No more information available at this time.
