(Lincoln, NE)- A Kearney man with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit was taken into custody, after a short pursuit on Interstate-80 near Lincoln.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 911 dispatch received a call from motorists reporting a black SUV speeding and reckless eastbound on Interstate 80 near Lincoln.

Around 6:04 p.m. a trooper spotted a black 2002 GMC Sport Utility Vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound near the I80/I180 interchange in Lancaster County.

The trooper activated overhead emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic.  During the pursuit the driver of the SUV tossed a beer bottle out of his window. Two minutes later at approximately 6:06 p.m., troopers were able to box in the SUV and bring him to a stop.  Troopers were then forced to remove the male driver from his vehicle after he refused to exit.

A blood alcohol test on the driver resulted in a BAC of .253, nearly three-times the legal limit of .08.  The driver of the vehicle, 49-year-old Douglas Holtmeier, of Kearney, Nebraska was taken into custody and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on charges of Flight to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving, Driving Under the Influence, Resisting Arrest, and Open Container.
