On Friday, March 7th, Detectives charged 22-year-old Roymari Campbell of Winston Salem with the homicides of two Fayetteville women.

Campbell was charged with First Degree Murder and Robbery With A Dangerous Weapon in the November 3, 2007 murder of 42 year old Maria “Teresa” Pena Duran.  Duran, of 36 Cambridge Arms Apt. F, was found shot to death on a path between Cambridge Arms Apartments and Wagoner Drive.

Campbell was also charged with First Degree Murder, Burglary and Robbery With A Dangerous Weapon in the November 6, 2007 homicide of 42-year-old Lori Beaudry.  Beaudry, of 6720 Water Trail Drive Apt. 103, was found shot to death in her apartment while officers were canvassing the area after a reported break-in.

Robbery is believed to be the motive in both incidents.

Campbell was originally arrested on December 6, 2007 on an outstanding warrant for First Degree Burglary.  The burglary occurred on September 12, 2007 when Campbell kicked in the door of 63 Cambridge Arms Apt. C while the occupant of the apartment, Nikkole Shevtchenko, was home.  Campbell ran away after discovering the victim on the phone with 911.   Campbell was identified as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest on September 18th.  Campbell was in the Cumberland County Detention Center for the burglary charge when he was charged with the two homicides.

In January, Detectives released surveillance photos to the media of a man using a credit card taken during the Beaudry incident.  An FPD officer recognized the suspect as Roymari Campbell after coming in contact with photos of Campbell related to the September 2007 burglary warrant.

As a result of this information detectives conducted interviews with the suspect and witnesses and conducted search warrants that allowed detectives to obtain the information necessary to charge Campbell with the death of Lori Beaudry.  While conducting interviews related to the Beaudry case detectives were also able to obtain enough information to charge Campbell with the homicide of Maria Pena Duran.

Campbell is currently in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

The investigation of this case was a collaborative effort between detectives, forensic technicians and line officers.

Media Note:  At the time of his arrest in December, Campbell resided at 42 Cambridge Arms Apartments.  Since his arrest the apartment has been vacated and the Winston Salem address is the most current available.
