VICTORVILLE –The Victorville Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division conducted another traffic safety operation in a series of operations to reduce dangerous driving in the City of Victorville.
This operation was conducted on Friday morning, March 7th, 2008. The operation began at about 6:00 am and concluded at 5:00 pm.

The traffic enforcement officers focused their efforts today along Palmdale and Mariposa roads. Deputies were specifically observing drivers committing traffic violations for excessive speed, unsafe passing and red light violations. These are violations that often are the causes of the more serious traffic collisions they investigate endanger other drivers. These are very dangerous locations to drive too fast due to the business entrance/exits and residences along the roadways which can lead to very serious injury collisions.

One driver on Mariposa was cited for driving more than 71 MPH in a 40 MPH speed zone, directly in front of the Red Robin restaurant. This is an extremely dangerous location and the speed would be a major contributing factor to a collision at this location. A second driver was cited on Palmdale road for driving 91 MPH near the location of Diamond ave. This is another dangerous location for such an excessive speed where fatal collisions have occurred in the recent past.

Once again, this is an effort to reduce the dangerous driving that often causes serious injuries and make the streets safer in the City of Victorville. This ongoing program is a direct result of citizen’s comments and concerns about the driving habits they encounter while driving in the city. The dangerous driving program includes increased enforcement in selected locations and enhanced public awareness and education about traffic safety. The goal of the program is to educate drivers in the City of Victorville about traffic safety and reduce the number of traffic collisions due to unsafe driving.

The dangerous driving enforcement operations in Victorville are funded through local funds and from a $597,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
