Preliminary work begins March 10
OGDEN - The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will begin work on I-15 to widen the freeway between State Street in Farmington and the south Layton interchange (exit 330) on Monday, March 17. The project will widen the existing center median to accommodate new travel lanes, one in each direction on I-15.
“Davis County residents have been dealing with congestion problems for far too long,” said UDOT Region One Director Cory Pope. “The I-15 Davis Lane Gain project will coincide with the opening of the Legacy Parkway, relieving traffic congestion and providing motorists with a timely commute.”
Preliminary construction activities will begin on Monday, March 10. In Kaysville, one lane in each direction will be closed on 200 North from the I-15 interchange to 400 West for utility work beginning Wednesday, March 12 until April 2. Intermittent lane closures are possible in the area on March 10 and 11.
During I-15 construction, three travel lanes will be maintained in each direction during peak traffic hours. Lane restrictions will be necessary during night-time and off-peak hours to expedite construction activities.
The additional lanes between the South Layton Interchange (Exit 330) to the north of the Farmington Park Lane interchange (Exit 325) will be completed in Fall 2008. Additional work will begin in Spring 2009 to extend the lanes between State Street and the Park Lane interchange in Farmington and will be completed in Summer 2009.
“We appreciate the support and patience of the community as we work to bring this important project to Davis County,” said Pope.
As segments of the project are completed, they will open to traffic as High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes. In Fall 2008, the new lanes will be converted to Express Lanes (www.expresslanes.utah.gov).
A noise analysis study was conducted along the entire project corridor in 2007 to determine potential noise impacts associated with the lane addition. Several areas met the UDOT requirement to receive noise walls. Noise walls will be constructed in the following areas:
East side of I-15 between Burton Lane in Kaysville and Shepard Lane in Farmington
East side of I-15 between 200 North and the Utah State University Botanical Grounds in Kaysville
East side of I-15 south of the Layton Hills Interchange; between Hillfield Road and just north of Church Street in Layton
West side of I-15 south of the Layton Hills Interchange; fronting the Hill Villa subdivision in Layton
Residents receiving noise walls have been notified and UDOT will continue to inform them as the project progresses.
UDOT advises motorists to reduce speeds and use caution when driving through work zones. For more project information, call 1.877.808.2008 or visit www.udot.utah.gov/go/davislanegain.
