On Monday February 11, 2008 approximately 1:32 PM Santa Rosa Police and The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department both received simultaneous 911 calls regarding a moving fight in progress involving several males that started in the 700 block of West Ave in Roseland. A group of males were chasing another group to the intersection of Sebastopol Rd and West Ave. and then south on West Ave. to McMaster Ln.
Responding Officers from the Santa Rosa Police found a 17 year old male resident of Roseland at the intersection of Sebastopol Rd and West Ave suffering from a stab wound to the back. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries which were serious. He is expected to survive his injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld due to his age and for his safety.
The stabbing was determined to have occurred in the portion of Roseland patrolled by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department and the Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit were summoned to the scene to investigate this crime.
Based on interviews with witnesses and the victim the following circumstances leading up to the stabbing were determined.
The victim was walking with three friends north on West Ave when they were approached by a group of three to five males who inquired as to what gang they claimed. When the victim replied that he was not affiliated with a gang, the group started chasing the victim and his friends. The victim was then stabbed by one of the pursuing group.
The weapon used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene. The suspect who stabbed the victim was described as an Hispanic male juvenile, 16-17 years old, heavyset build, with a goatee and a shaved head, last seen wearing a black Oakland Raiders jersey, and black pants. He was last seen running away on foot.
